Algebra I

Purpose:
This course is designed to introduce students to the inner workings of the computer and its various peripherals, along with a glimpse of how software is developed, used, and programmed. The goal is to allow students the opportunity to explore career choices in computer science.

Description:
This course deals with the mechanics of the machines involved. The students will disassemble and build working computers from parts. How each of these parts creates the whole will be discussed and learned. Time will be spent on programming in Java, using DOS commands and prompts. The role of programming in IT, Admin, and Video Games will be discussed and practiced. Using problem solving, students will design and test large programs on a variety of topics. Programs will start as text only, but will advance to graphic interfaces and designs.

Requirements:
Grades will be assigned based quizzes and practical exams. Small programs will be developed on a variety of topics. Students should have access to a home computer or have time available after school. A final exam, worth 10% of each student’s grade, will be given.
