Prerequisite:
Algebra I or Computer Science I

Purpose:
To introduce students to the automation and computerization of machinery and appliances.  The goal is to allow students the opportunity to explore career choices in robotics, engineering or other related fields. 

Description:

The first week will deal with safety and training of the tools involved.  The rest of the first nine weeks will be an introduction into DC electricity and simple circuits.  Simple automation using Arduino Lilypads, and sensor interaction.  The second nine weeks will be involved with designing small robots that will be controllable by the students.  The third nine weeks will be construction and testing of said robot.  The fourth nine weeks will be an exploration of automation.  Using sensor input to make the robot perform tasks automatically.

 


Requirements:

Students must be able to use tools and be willing to “get their hands dirty.”  Students must pass a written and practical safety test to participate.  Quizzes and Practical exams will be used to determine a student’s grade.
