#674       SCIENCE 8
Grade Level: 8       Year Long        Required

Purpose:
This course is designed to introduce eighth grade students to the concepts of chemistry and physics.

Description:
This course deals with important principles and concepts of chemistry and physics. Active inquiry and investigation will be a key part of exploring the information required by the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Physical Science. The chemistry investigations will include what is matter, physical/chemical properties, states of matter, elements, compounds, solutions, the atomic structure and theory, balancing chemical equations, and the properties of the periodic table. The physics investigations will include what is motion, forces, gravity, inertia, how forces affect motion, balanced/unbalanced forces, potential and kinetic energy, Newton’s three laws of motion, speed, velocity, and acceleration.

Requirements:
Students are evaluated using quizzes, tests, laboratory experiments, activities, research paper, oral presentations, projects and a final exam worth 10% of the final grade.

Prerequisites:
None
