Prerequisite:
Honors Enrollment is based on three criteria: scientific abilities assessment, teacher recommendation, and classroom performance.

Purpose:
This course is designed to provide 9th grade students with an accelerated hands-on, academic opportunity to study Biology I. Students are also given a more detailed background in Chemistry, Genetics, and Cellular Biology, Evolution and Ecology.

Description:
This course covers basic chemistry of life, biological macromolecules, the cell and its environment, cellular protein synthesis, and how energy is gathered through cellular respiration and photosynthesis. We also study the different components relating to genetics; the history, the determination of traits, DNA, mutations, and disorders that are linked to genes. The last part of the year, we analyze evolution and ecology of organisma.

Requirements:
Grades will be assigned based on daily Homework, labs, individual and group projects, quizzes and tests. The final exam will be worth 10% of the student’s grade. Students are required to take the Biology Keystone exam.
