This course is designed for students interested in understanding music through a deeper examination of the elements of music and musical notation.

Description:
This elective course is offered to students in grades nine through twelve. Music Theory Fundamentals is for the novice or experienced musician who wants to develop a true understanding of written music (melody, harmony, rhythm, form and dynamics). Areas to be explored include rhythmic and melodic notation, scales, keys, harmony and simple music composition will greatly increase the students’ understanding of music. Studies include the use of “web 2.0” technology, such as recording, wiki use, uploading and sharing work, and use of open source software and web resources.
