This elective course is offered to students in grades nine through twelve. It is designed to teach the fundamentals of piano playing. Instruction will focus on proper playing technique and reading music notation and symbols associated with the music. The text provides comprehensive approach to reading, understanding and playing music. Lessons contain concepts and fundamentals of posture, hand positions, music reading, scales, chords and keys. The instructor reinforces these concepts as the students work toward individual improvement. Repertoire combines all the ideas together in a piece of music to enable the total aesthetic musical experience.
