United Registers to Vote

Under the leadership of social studies teacher Mr. Jerry Matava, 29 out of 30 eligible seniors at United High School registered to vote for the first time in this year’s primary election to be held in May.

For his successful effort to register 96% of eligible students, Matava has helped the school to earn a Gold Level School Award as part of the Governor’s Civic Engagement Award.

Since the 2017-2018 school year, Pennsylvania’s Departments of State and Education have been recognizing high schools for their voter registration efforts. The Governor’s Civic Engagement Award is an opportunity for schools to showcase and celebrate the efforts of our students to get involved in the voting process.

A recognition event will be held by the Departments of State and Education at the end of the school year to celebrate this achievement and the achievements of all participating schools.
